We really need to know what you are intending to do with your blog, so that you can receive the best advice. Wordpress.org is the best choice if you want to be sure you won't lose your blog. It's defintely the right choice if you want to be your own boss and/or make money from your blog. You do have to have your own hosting account though and you pay monthly for this. Also you'll need to choose and pay for a domain name (I recommend Namecheap.com for choosing and registering a domain name.)
Hostgator is very good for hosting blogs or static websites and their Live Chat is available 24/7 to help and advise you..

Wordpress.com is free but if you do anything that is against their Terms of Service you will lose your blog - and all the hard work you put into it.

Wordpress is good blogging platform it has thousands of free themes and plugins also so it would be good for you as you can create blogs easily.

Wordpress is the best blogging platform in my opinion, but another commenter had a point, it may depend on what your reason for blogging or what type of niche it will be in, if it is a targeted one there are actually better options than wordpress if they already have their own specialty sites.

WordPress is your best choice in terms of features and tools etc, and because you provide your own domain name and hosting you actually own it, so a good WordPress blog can be a valuable salable asset for the future. Blogger is much easier, and you can be up and running straight away, and it is completely free. The downside of blogger is that you do not own the domain or hosting, so it is not a sell-able asset in the same way a WordPress blog can be.

Selling a business may not be your intention, or certainly not on your mind right now, especially as you haven't even started yet, but your exit strategy, no matter how far down the road it may be is very important.

To choose your niche... Write down a list of topics that interest you and research your competition, the size of the market ie, how many potential subscribers you could get, what products are available etc.

As far as writing blogs goes, try not to be too perfect, write as if you are talking to one person, just let the words flow. A good blog does not need to be a literary work of art. Leave in Erm... Err... etc just as if you were chatting with a friend.

I agree with you that Wordpress is superior compared to blogger, but if you want to make money with AdSense you not able to do that on WP, for that I prefer blogger.. how do you make money from Ads with a Wordpress site?

First step is read other blogs, more you read more ideas you get, 2nd there are many free platforms where you can develop free blog, Joomla, wordpress, blogger,Tumblr etc. Create any blog either pictures about politics what ever you know better and have interest. I prefer blogger for new blogger, just create content and share it on social sites. you will start getting response very soon

Blogger is very old blogging platform you can use it as well, but I would advice that use only fresh content so that you can get maximum SEO benefit.
