One of the important things to avoid in blogging is avoiding revenue sharing sites like helium which pays only a penny of what we earn.

It is good to start with revenue sharing site but after some site we should go on our own in order to reap the full benefits of our blogging skills.

Yeah, you're best off setting up your own instance of wordpress for a blog, otherwise you could end up getting closed down for freedom of speech issues as has been in the past.

Also, sometimes you might not want to continue with a blog and its much easier to sell one on your own domain rather than trying to sell a blogspot.com subdomain is much, much more difficult since you don't control it (google does!)
