html beginner

Is it possible to learn html by teaching yourself, or is it best to have it taught to you? I want to teach myseslf this but have no clue what programs are best or how to go about doing this. I have started with using notepad but then I'm not sure where to go after that, like how to make it into an actual site.

well actually it is better that you learn by yourself. I myself did not know much about html a few weeks but now i know html well. If you want to learn I recommend that you check out my other thread which is about learning html for beginners. After mastering html you will be able to make your own site and if you want to can learn xhtml too.[it is very easy to learn if you already know html]

Katlyn, I taught myself HTML by reading several books for beginners and experimenting with the code in Frontpage. The ultimate software for HTML is Dreamweaver from Adobe but it is quite expensive so probably not the best thing to start with. notepad is good but as you've probably found out you have to preview the code in your web browser. Try looking online for free HTML authoring software. I am slowly learning more and more and have just built my website to help me practise CSS. Good luck with it.

I know this thread is a couple of years old, but for anyone wanting to learn, this is a great place to start:

Once you learn the basics, you can go on and learn CSS on the same website.

It will take a bit of time to learn but its worth the effort learning the tags rather than learning to use an html editor first.

w3schools is best website. how ever if you find an expert and give you one hour it will be great ....

I am ready to do so . and i will take only 10 dollars for giving you one hour.

For last 5 years i am making websites so dont worry i am expert in html

learn it yourself, from books and websites, w3schools.com is a good site to learn the basics on.

NVU.com is good free html editor. I use it myself and find it very useful

Experience is the best teacher. Use the environment Dreamweaver so you won't need to memorize the entire syntax on HTML and download e-books too. You can learn it by yourself but if you like to take courses regarding that then go.

I've been looking at some of the HTML books for beginners but as you look through the ratings they're a bit nasty. What is the best HTML book for beginners?
