I know that the person or company is willing to pay per click but how can some companies are willing to pay so much per click? What is their limit? I've seen ppc as high as $40 a click.....at this rate....1000 clicks a day can really set them back.

Pay per click costs per click are dependent on a few main factors.
1) The industry you are in.
I have one client, an IT Support company that pays over £6 per click. Whereas another client a nutritionist is only paying around 25p/click for really great keywords for their market.
2)Competition for a particular keyword
Understanding and researching relevant keywords for your industry is crucial as picking search terms that are regularly searched but have few competitors will be a more cost effective option.
3)Your quality score per keyword as assigned by Google.
Quality score is based around the relevance of your keyword to your ad to your website landing page. If Google does not feel these threee items are relevant they wil award a low quality score - your ad will be rarely shown and you will ahve to pay more per click as Google have a reputation to uphold.

I think it is also fair to say initially your ad will cost more while you build up a good reputation with Google.

Good luck!

no one can say how much you have to spend on your ppc. it all depends on your competitors and quality score.
