Default How to effectively research keywords to build a website around! :D

When building a new website it’s important to have a set of keyword that you’re trying to rank for, that’s where the traffic will come from in the long run. I thought I’d create up this simple article for newbies to help them out, explaining step by step how keyword research is done. So basically you have your niche in mind but don’t know how to do keyword research, here’s how.

We’re going to use a tool called Google Keyword Tool to help us find keywords in our niche to target. You want your keywords to have 1000+ exact matches; second we are going to find about 4 to 6 different exact match keywords that relate to your niche. Okay so you got your niche: I’ll use Martial Arts as an example for no particular reason. The first thing I would do is head over to the Google keyword tool by typing Google keyword tool into Google and clicking on the first link that shows up. Make sure you set the match types to [Exact Match] for accurate results. Type in the desired niche, example, martial arts.

After you type in your niche a bunch of keywords will come up only 100 sign up for an adwards account and you’ll see the full list, now copy all the keywords that are 1000 + into a notepad file, or check the buttons and export them to a txt file, after you have selected all the keywords that have 1000+ and have successfully copied them all into notepad head over to go daddy and do a bulk domain search and enter all the keyword in, and whatever domain is not taken make that your homepage, and if there all taken don’t worry be creative add hyphens in or add a letter on the end like x for example.

Once you have found a domain all the other keyword can be used as keywords that you can build your website around, also to check the competition of each keyword head over to Google and type in the keyword in the search bar and using quotation marks “” and a number of search terms will come up that is your competition. Try to get keyword will with competition under 500,000 searches that’s a good way to start.

This is just a quick guide I wrote out for keyword research for some people that want to get started, and need a little help.

To your success,
Chris.D

Great post Chris

I would like to add that this needs to be done for a new site as well as for those people that are blogging and writing articles the same things need to be done.

Also long tail keywords and phrases should be looked at. The more specific the phrase that you are going for the easyer it is to get ranked. As well as looking at the compation for the keyword. It is harder to rank for a keyword with a high compation then with one that is low.

The keyword tool is so useful when you are building a new site.

I sometimes also find it useful to look at competitor sites through alexa to see what keywords are working for them as well as rankings of the sites.

Great post though, thanks!

Thanks Chris for posting this informative article. Keyword is also one the tools that I used when I'm building a certain site. I find it very helpful especially in dealing with the competitors site.

In my opinion the free Google Keyword Tool is probably better than most, if not all the paid versions. It does everything you need it to do without getting too complicated by offering random features that you would never use.

First though I build a short list of keywords I want to research by using Alexa to check out competing websites. I may also double check any results I get from Google's Keyword tool with Wordtracker just to confirm my findings.

I like Google Adwords. This program has helped me find the keywords I need for my business. I mark my calendar the dates when I should update my site's keywords. It helps to always check my competition so I'm ahead the search engine results game.

You should use following tips for research effective keywords

* Suggest relevant keywords
* Check their demand using any keyword tool like Google Adwords keyword tool
* Don't select high competitor keywords because it take much time for come in rank
* Don't select less competitor keywords because they don't provide high traffic on your website
