The best way to develop a prospective user or email marketing list is by creating an opt in splash or squeeze page. But before you do so you need to join an autoresponder service. This allows you to collect the emails. You then go on to create the splash or squeeze page. This is a page that you will either place on your own site or market in Traffic exchange sites. This is sort of a mini page, with information about your site, but the difference is that you are inviting people to subscribe in order to receive emails and updates from you. Try to offer something. People like freebies, so if you offer an ebook or some sort of bonus they will be more likely to join your list. This is one of the most effective and legal ways to collect emails in order to carry out your email marketing campaign. WHICH if done the right way, email marketing is still a very EFFECTIVE way of advertising.

Thanks Jenny, thats what i thought.
You need the traffic, conversion (offer / freebie) and follow-up for it to work. I guess it all comes back to getting people to your site and providing something interesting enough to get them to take action and join your list.
Sometimes i'm drawn between selling a low-priced item up-front like an ebook to get a buyers list, or giving some great content away for getting on a list - one way you have a buyers list the other you have just some people who wanted a freebie.
I've heard of traffic exchange sites like trafficswarm but i'll check out the one in your signature - i've noticed you have listed 3 keywords with the same site, it might not be a great idea as it could be seen as link spamming by the big G although i could be wrong.

It is very interesting, and yes, E-mail marketing is growing day by day in a very effective way. E-mail is very easy to access and easy to reach to our targeted audience. It also cost very less to company but at the same time make a huge profit if it is done perfectly. It is very necessary to see that it must not included in spam box other wise it might get a negative image of company.

Everything MyCRSpace has said is true; however with multiple affiliate networks/CPA networks and a ton of good products out there, you will soon find that squeeze pages are not only time consuming and expensive. Yes a good many CPA Network products give you the squeeze page but after doing CPA Marketing since it was created every successful CPA marketer will tell you that you never use the creatives the vendor gives you.

E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fundraising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every e-mail sent to a potential or current customer could be considered e-mail marketing. However, the term is usually used to refer to:
- sending e-mails with the purpose of enhancing the relationship of a merchant with its current or previous customers and to encourage customer loyalty and repeat business,
- sending e-mails with the purpose of acquiring new customers or convincing current customers to purchase something immediately,
- adding advertisements to e-mails sent by other companies to their customers, and
- sending e-mails over the Internet, as e-mail did and does exist outside the Internet (e.g., network e-mail and FIDO).
Researchers estimate that United States firms alone spent US$400 million on e-mail marketing in 2006.

Just remember that the money is in the list!!!!
Also keep a good relationship with your subscribers. You can offer free information in the form of a PDF report.
A more advanced technique is if you are looking to promote a product (from clickbank for example) give them 2-3 free reports on the subject of the product. Now it is VERY important that you don't to sell them in the reports or make any references of the product just give info on the topic. (If you get what i mean)
