Default Benchmark being caught in SPAM filters

I send out graphic emails promoting our photo studio. I use 1&1 as an website service provider and use their free email marketing tool. I moved away from this to Benchmark thinking that I would get better deliverability with one of the established players.

It looks like paying more is not always better. I can send the same email 2 ways through 1&1, and via Benchmark. Lately emails sent via Benchmark are almost sure to end up in Hotmail's spam, where emails sent via 1&1 get to Hotmail inboxes fine. This is concerning as over 40% of my list is Hotmail addresses. Since it is exactly the same email with images stored on my website, I blame Benchmark.

Am I being too harsh on them?

Know that reputation is the key to deliverability. Try to understand how your ESP calculates your deliverability rate as the measurement differs among ESPs.

If you share an IP address with other senders, their poor email practices might drag down this reputation. As a result, it's often better to have such a sender IP address for your exclusive use. Then you're in complete control: it's your practices that are determining the reputation of that IP address.

MEMA is correct you might want to have your own or private like servers because if you are in a shared server tendencies might occur where in one of the users in your server already mark as spammer so same with you also because you are in a same server.

I have had Benchmark move me to another server. After I retest, I still get the same problems. I will try and see if Benchmark can resolve it.

Is it possible that all of Benchmark not just server IP's are being tagged as spam via Hotmail and Live?

Did you send exactly the same message?? May be you should try with another content in order to see if it's either Benchmark the problem or your message.

- Try to personalize the subject line with the recipients’ names
- Write compelling subject lines.

Understand that each ISP has a different threshold it must reach before blocking messages – the threshold is determined by monitoring the reputation factors over a period of time.

Did you check if you are blacklisted or not? Benchmark does well with B2B email marketing. Not sure about B2C. Try sending simple content emails without images and then check.
