Wow, well they're similar but not the same.
Article marketing is about providing quality content to article directories, your links are in a separate portion called the resource box (usually at the bottom of the email) rather than anywhere in the post of a blog.
Blog marketing is all about providing quality content to your own blog site or on a blog directory, the big difference is that a blog allows commenting and trackbacks, which articles don't provide.
The big plus about articles is that you can submit to multiple directories the same article and change it a bit to make it unique for the search engines. The result is more traffic and better rankings on the search engines.
Another plus with articles is that website owners go to article directories to get content for their website as it is reusable content as long as the resource box is included (which contains your pitch and link back to your website, further increasing your visibility)
With blogs, a big plus is that you can link to other blogs within your post, and they in turn link back to you, this is called a trackback.
Blogs are your own customizable pre-built website, and articles are just content but with the big plus of being duplicated many times over with links back to you.
Both should really be about providing quality information and only pitching at the bottom of the post (blog) or in a resource box (articles).
You could do both, create a blog, link the article resource box back to your blog posting for that article, with an extended version of the information in the article with more product reccomendations, then its multiplying what is going on.
As a side note, don't forget that the same is also true with forums, create a good signature with your pitch and just provide quality information on forums, and you can't go wrong.
At the end of the day its all just information and different ways of displaying it, don't get caught up in the technicalities and just go try out these things, you'll be surprised at the results!
