The strategy I have found to be the most effective thus far for my website is to focus on SEO rather than traffic from the articles sites or publishers. I target specific keywords with decent demand and lower competition. Then, I create a series 5-10 articles around those keywords and make sure I use anchor text to deep link to those pages in my resource boxes.
However, I'm always experimenting so this could very well change for me in a few months.
You should be very aware that you do not have much time to keep your reader's attention. Your first paragraph should be an attention grabber, an incentive for your readers to finish reading the article. However, you want to make sure your article does not drag on. You want a concise and informative article.
Article marketing is a long term marketing strategy that usually takes 3-4 months to see the results. Don’t rush on to see immediate results; perseverance is important so try to hang on. This kind of strategy takes time, patience and devotion.

One of the reasons why article marketing is so effective, is you can also get traffic directly from the articles if they are well written and interesting. This is in addition to the SEO power which the backlinks in the articles provide. Another reason that they are so effective is that they may get republished on other websites over time, and thus have a viral aspect.

One of the obvious benefits that you get out of article marketing is that it builds your credibility to a great extent. Say you want people to know that you are one of the top people in your niche, create articles that show that. When you submit articles to article directories, they get spread on the Internet and since the content will be helpful and informative to the reader, it’ll grow your credibility.
Well, I think this is a rather difficult question to answer. Especially since everyone has their own particular way of implementing their article marketing. Not everyone will benefit in the same way with article marketing. Not to mention that every niche reacts differently to article marketing.
